Sized off the real ink

Pick 5.5″ and the finished vinyl is 5.5″ — measured off the artwork, not the invisible grid. Two of them fit side by side on one 12″ mat.

One merged path

A traced PNG hands Design Space hundreds of separate squares. This is a single welded outline, so the blade runs it in one pass instead of stuttering.

Rounded so it weeds

Square modules that touch corner-to-corner pinch the waste vinyl shut. The corners are opened just enough that the background lifts in one piece.

Scan-checked before you cut

It tells you the module size and refuses to pretend a code will scan when it's been shrunk past the point where phones can read it.

Rounding is not just looks. Square modules that touch corner-to-corner pinch the background shut; rounding them opens a channel so the waste vinyl lifts in one piece.

The lettering ships as outlines, not text, so Design Space never has to find the font. Letters are knocked out of the tab, so each one is a piece you weed — the pick-out count already includes them. The white panel doubles as the code's required clear margin.

Cutting it

  1. Design Space → Upload, pick the SVG. There's no tracing step — it comes in as a cut file already.
  2. It lands as one layer at the right size. Don't ungroup it, and don't resize it smaller than the floor listed above.
  3. Matte vinyl, dark on a light surface. Gloss throws the phone's flash back into the lens, and reversed contrast fails on a lot of scanners.
  4. Weed the outside first, then the pick-out bits. Test-scan it before it goes on the glass.
Using the PNG instead? Upload it, choose Simple (the background is already transparent, so there's nothing to rub out), save as a Cut Image — not Print Then Cut — then set the width by hand.
